Kajukenbo is a mixed martial art that was established in Hawaii in 1947. The name "Kajukenbo" is an acronym for the main arts of the original founders:

Ka: Karate
Ju: Jiu-jutsu and Judo
Ken: Kenpo
Bo: Western Boxing and Chinese "Boxing" (Also known as Kung Fu)

The original art 's main focus was self-defense, so if a technique worked it was included in the system. If a technique didn't work, it was scrapped. The techniques were then field tested by the founders, who were in the military and worked as either military police or bouncers and security.

Nowadays, in true Hawaiian fashion, Kajukenbo practitioners also integrate other styles into their training, and as a result it's not odd to see elements of styles like Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-jutsu, Krav Maga, or Escrima.

Adult classes begin with basic boxing skills and move on to kickboxing, karate, jiu-jutsu, judo, kenpo and kung fu techniques as students progress in skill. The main focus is mixing cardio/muscle training with self-defense skills as taught by the art of Kajukenbo.

Kids classes teach the same techniques but at a slower pace, also focusing on listening, reaction, learning ability, memory, and simply enjoying exercise.
